First start by searching in the library catalog: - this is the subject search option in the catalog. You can access it by starting from the libraries’ homepage and selecting Catalog, then selecting More Searches. On the resulting page you can select “Subject” from the Other Search Pages menu.

In this search box, enter the name of the figure you are interested in, surname first: "Dewey, John" would be entered if you were looking for information on John Dewey.

Sometimes a person will not be significant enough to have warranted their own book (or we do not own one about them). At this point, you may find it helpful to look at some of the databases here to see what you can find about your individual. Some of these are subject specific, which may be relevant if your figure comes from a certain background (i.e. literary) or ethnicity (i.e. African American). These sources might have information about the figure you are interested in, or direct you to sources in which you can find information on this person.
